    Peter felt the hot Georgia sun beating down on his back as he hunched low, tucking himself between two rank garbage bins in the hopes they'd mask his scent. One of them was coming towards his hiding spot now, limping closer with that horrifically slow pace. The pace that made you think 'they couldn't possibly be that dangerous, right?'

    He'd learned that the hard way, when he'd watched a group of decaying bodies tear into a woman before he even had the time to process it. He still got nauseous, thinking of the way the woman's flesh had sounded, being torn from her bones while she screamed. The haunting pleads for a quick death as she bled out on the ground in front of him.

    So he knew the danger. He knew that every minute, every second, wasn't guaranteed. With a shallow breath, he braced himself as the lumbering 'man' let out a gurgled growl as it finally caught onto his scent.

     

    Or, at the end of No Way Home, the spell malfunctions and Peter is sent to The Walking Dead Universe in the body of his younger self, and must learn to survive.

    Tangle always thought heroism meant adventure - the kind with fun adventures, dramatic speeches, and stories she’d brag about later to her fans, but when what was supposed to remain a simple tracking mission spirals into disaster, trapping them countless feet underground, chasing after fakes who are between robotic or illusion, she learns that heroism is heavier, demanding, and far more suffocating than she ever imaged.

    It doesn’t help that, since their unfortunate cave-in, Sonic has been acting… strange.

    Rambling, fidgeting, and putting too much focus on tracing the walls, keeping a hand on it at all times. Sure, he’d still smile, laugh, and joke around, but there’s tension in the way he staggers, chills, and switches between rambling or going completely silent. Tangle chalks it up to stress, exhaustion, or the strangeness of situation but the deeper they go, the more the cracks begin to show in the cave walls, in the world’s expectations, and even in the heroes themselves.

    Sometimes the greatest dangers aren’t the villains they face, but the pressure that builds when no one is allowed to rest. After all, pressure makes cracks, and when it finally breaks, what holds them?

      “I don’t know, I think I’m ready for a midlife crisis,” Kakashi said, squinting up into the trees to make sure his final trap was hidden. “I could buy a mint first edition collection of the whole Icha Icha series and pay Tenzou a lavish fee to build me an ostentatious bookcase for them all.”

      “That’s your idea of a midlife crisis?” Iruka asked, raising an eyebrow and trying not to smile. “Expensive trashy books?”

      “And of course I’d have an illicit affair with a younger man. Though since I’m not in my forties I’ll have to cap the age difference at five years tops.” He turned to Iruka as though only just realising something. “Say, you’re younger than me. How about it, want to have a passionate and forbidden liaison sometime?”

      Iruka’s smile was breaking through. “If only you had a husband you could divorce for me. That would really bring an element of drama.”

      “I would divorce my imaginary husband for you in a heartbeat, Iruka,” Kakashi said, laying a hand over his heart. “Our marriage was never going to work out anyway. We have so little in common – I’m real and he isn’t. It’s one of those divides that simply can’t be overcome.”

      By now, Iruka was laughing. “You’re such a dork!” He smacked Kakashi lightly on the arm and then left his hand there, warm against the lowering evening temperature.
