"How—" Stratt cuts herself off. There's more murmuring. "Did you do it?"
A small noise croaks in the back of Grace's throat when he opens his mouth to reply. No words come out.
Did you do it? Did you save the world? Did you do what we expected of you?
He wonders: if he says no, will they let him land at all?
"I did it," Grace says, darting his eyes over to Rocky apologetically. Technically it'd been a team effort, but they can't know that yet.
There's more chattering on the other end, lots of excited voices. Someone laughs and the sound of it cuts through him like a knife.
They're celebrating and happy. They almost killed him and they're laughing.
There's a clattering sound, like the radio is being picked up or moved, then Stratt's voice comes through again.
"We're sending coordinates for you to land."
Grace didn't expect it to be that easy. He stares down at the walkie in shock.
"Welcome home, Dr. Grace."

Almost as if sensing her thoughts, he frowns. It looks out of place on him, carving faint lines into his otherwise perfect face that don’t quite belong there. In fact, it makes him look a little less handsome. Beth would love it if he frowned more. She’d feel a lot less intimidated by him. Or maybe that has more to do with the fact that he’s going to marry her cousin and play a hand in Renaissance's traumatic birth.

Beth considers, very seriously, smashing the window to her left and throwing herself out of it. Her cheeks burn instantly, heat flooding up her neck—
The man beside her shifts. There’s a strange sound—low, almost like it’s dragged up from somewhere deep in his chest—and then:
“Who do you think you are?”
Mikaela blinks, thrown. Brows pulling together as she looks at him. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.”He wonders what his family will think once they know. His eyes find their way back to their table, where Alice sits with a soft, knowing smile, speaking quietly to his other siblings as they all turn to him with varied amounts of surprise and relief decorating their faces.
‘Dear lord, it’s been a century-’
‘Thank god, he’s found her so he can stop–’
‘Way to go, buddy. All you need to do is–’
Mary-Alice meets his gaze and nods.
‘It's her’If she ever decides to stop resenting him, he'll ask if she wants to spend it with him. Living forever isn't so bad, he thinks, when you have the right person to live it with. But she's not here, and he feels the same disappointment he experienced when she left class early in the day
She's not unintelligent by any measure. Quite the opposite, in fact. She's brilliant, particularly for someone her age, with a sharp mind and a cynicism that's both caustic and deeply appealing. When they trade barbs back and forth, he finds himself genuinely amused by her wit (what little he can understand) and her refusal to soften her words for his benefit
She argues against him on every point, and he finds himself drawn to her defiance, her unwillingness to bend when he pushes for more of her time, more of her attention, more of her–
"Please leave." She's exhausted by his persistence, he can tell.
He loves her all the more for itBut Jasper helps when Edward's knee refuses to stop bouncing incessantly at lunch, and he can hear well enough from his siblings' carefully neutral expressions that his spiral is loud enough that his anxiety is causing undue worry for his mental health. He tries to pull it back, to rein it in, but the not-knowing is somehow worse than any certainty would be.
He’s fine.He's not fine. He is decidedly, profoundly not fine. By Tuesday afternoon, he can't deny it anymore and asks Esme to teach him how to make soup—ostensibly so he has another reason to visit her house besides delivering missed notes

Grace huffed a small laugh. “Sometimes, yeah. For example, when the sound is… very low and loud, we can feel it in our chests.”
“Song is neither low nor loud.” That would have an entirely different effect.
“I know. I can still feel it, I think. It’s strange.”
“Good strange, question?”
“Good strange, yeah.”
Grace could feel sound. Grace could feel Rocky’s songs.

Rocky discovers nature's laws aren't as inflexible as they'd thought. He puts this to good use.

In the years since the Outbreak, the country has split into walled-in districts that protect humanity from the infected, revoking any real freedom in the process.
Chan plans to escape his district in the hopes of finding his sister further south. Elsewhere, Felix possesses dangerous information that he's desperate to protect, even if it gets him killed. Jeongin's district was overtaken by the infected, forcing him to travel north with his best friend while keeping a secret that could put them both in jeopardy. And in the wasteland between the districts, Minho is just tired of fighting.
Individual goals or destinations don't matter anymore—all bets are off in the wasteland, and making allies is the only chance of survival.

Wade tilts his head to the side in utter confusion as he tries to understand what in the shit fuck is happening right now. Not only is his nose magically unbroken, but the black eye has faded into a lighter shade and his split lip looks less swollen. He runs a thumb over his nose gently to check to see if it's indeed intact, leaning in close with a quizzical frown. All Wade can find is the yellowish hue of a healing bruise that was once there. Is he a mutant with a healing factor? How many mutants does he know? Not exactly many. How many mutants does he know that are as pretty as this? His eyes scan down the length of his body, trying to figure out the puzzle in front of him on the table. He’s just missing some pieces…What is he not seeing?

Summary
The worst part about it, Simon thinks, is that when his skin starts to slough off, it’s replaced by a film of blood. And when that starts, the line of demarcation that separates what was strictly him and strictly other starts to fade. Even when his left arm detaches with an uneven rip and the voice in his head stops being his voice, he still hopes there’s a way to distill his real self from the sludge.
Simon subscribes to the idea that people get what they deserve as a consequence of their actions. Something along the lines of karma. It brings a sense of closure, and he’ll take closure where he can get it. With that, Simon submits himself to the notion he’s getting exactly what he deserves. This is how it’s going to end - with him blindly slinging an axe in a battle for unsatisfying gulps of metallic air, fumbling around the dark for a line that used to exist.
But he wakes up. And the first thing Simon’s traitorous brain thinks is that this man has the kindest eyes he’s ever seen.
