Shane doesn't know what happened when he was 12 years old, but his back is covered in deep scars, all from Ilya promisng is not desceased mother that she was going to be okay and that he was going to be okay. When Shane takes his shirt off in the locker room, it goes quiet, everyone noticing the deep scars on Shane's back, and it starts a talk that Shane's soulmate must be a terrible person for someone who would lie so badly so much.
Shane begins to suspect that Ilya is his soul mate on the rooftop in Vegas. When there is a familiar burning pain over Shane's heart as Ilya yells not everything is about you, Hollander. Eventually, Ilya suspects the same of Shane, but takes him a bit longer to understand this because Shane only lies when he says "I'm fine" or "I'm not hungry". But then Ilya asks, "You like them? Girls?" Shane looks up, caught off guard, "Oh, yeah, sure." Ilya feels a new scar on the back of his hand form, but then his phone rings and he has to deal with Russia.
