“What will she even come back to?” Basira responds a bit less despondently. She’ll never win, but Melanie’s grip loosens. “We’re not doing anything. Our manager is a deadbeat, Jon is functionally dead and Martin visits him six times a week and when he’s here we barely see him – we still don’t know what Helen is doing here. Daisy wouldn’t fix that.”
“That’s the spirit,” Melanie hisses. “It’s all wrong. All of it. We’re stuck here, and we can’t do anything.” By Basira’s dad’s logic, if they can’t do anything, then they can’t be complaining, but maybe there’s something they could change.
It’s stupid, but as Melanie fully lets up, Basira speaks. “I didn’t say we couldn’t do anything. I said we aren’t doing anything right now.” Basira just needs to feel something, and she doesn’t care if it’s Melanie’s hand on her throat as long as someone’s touching her.

There was nothing he was afraid of more than being alone, and he hoped Naim would never do such a thing.
“Of course it is, you mean so much to me” Naim came closer and touched Ryan’s cheek softly as he leaned into his palm seeking warmth from his touch
“It’s going to be hard you know” Ryan looked up at him with sad blue eyes knowing that their attraction would always make things hard. He knew that people would frown upon it, and he did not want Naim to regret being with him. It had been difficult knowing his own family turned against him, but he did not want Naim to ever feel like an outsider.
